Cooling system on a 98 Polaris SLXH

I've been reading online that for the 1050cc engine, the cooling can be much improved by removing the plunger and spring that are mounted in the cooling bar (next to the thermostat). Some people even recommend removing the thermostat all together? Is this good for better cooling?

My thermostat has gone bad and needs to be replaced, just wondering if I should buy it or go without it...

Leave the bypass and ditch the thermostat.

So leave everything in but the thermostat? Sorry if this sounds stupid, just want to be 100% sure...

    cooling

removing either component disables the other, they work together to provide 145 temp motor at idle, once you nail the throttle the pump pressure overcomes the plunger spring tension and water flows and the temp drops to below 100.in 2000 the 1200 motors completly did away with them

I usually say keep the stat and ditch the spring and plunger as they can mess up and jam the flow. I run thermostats without them. In your case I'd just ditch everything for peace of mind. You just need to warm up the ski a little longer on colder days. Or you can add a pisser on the cooling intake line and visually see water spitting out of the fitting so you know it is getting cooling water.

I ditched everything. No sense in having a bypass if there is no thermostat, like TXpro said.
