    Gas valve failure

During a valve inspection I noticed one had a shiny area on the blade. Took it apart and found the valve had snapped at the stem and the ring was actually touchin the valve!!!

Anybody else broke a Riva Gas valve paddle?

I read a while back ago that someone had broke one, pretty rare occurence on this. Good news is, it does not fall in and take out your cylinder.

It was close tho. Check out pic one wear the stop on the shaft got hammered back letting the valve down further. On pic 2 you can see where the ring was touching the paddle leaving a shiny spot. I got lucky on that on Bill!

How many hours? I'm glad it didn't mess up your piston and cylinder.

    two times

This has happened twice to me, thats why I have pinned valves now.

First time it took out a cylinder and piston, second time only a piston....

They will not be back inside my motor.....

    Broken Gas Valves

I have seen several break at the groove for the air to get to the bellows. Fercho broke one - half the blade off - and it went out and never touched a thing!! Lucky Guy!

Duke just out of curiosity did you check alignment of the adapter piece when you installed these? I have seen enough slop in the bolt holes that if you shift the adapter one way or another it will cause the shaft to bind.

I tighten the bolts while checking for easiest movement of blade.

Carl thinks the oring pushed over the stem causing a metal to metal contact eventually snapping the stem at its weakest point. He suggests the green SD O-rings. Makes sense and makes me feel a little better about the other 2.
