Can an RXT intake grate be trued???

Over the last week I have been sanding my rideplate, installed skegs and am now trying to true my grate to the rideplate to finish up. The problem I have is that the grate hangs so low I would have o make the edges paper thin to have them flush to the rideplate. With the grate off the area it attaches to, I think called the pump shoe?, Is almost flush to the plate. Is this normal for the RXT? Thanks for the info.

NONONO!!! The RXT grate DOES stick down.

If you are going to true it, you HAVE to do it from the face. I don't think it will matter if the face is thinner.

If you remove material from the backside, these things have been known to break free at the bolt holes.

DO NOT REMOVE MATERIAL FROM THE BACKSIDE AND WEAKEN THE BOLT HOLES !!!

I have been told not to remove metal from the backside. Jerry told me not even a little from the back of the grate. JP, that's what I want to know. How far does your grate hang down. Have you tried to true it?

I haven't yet, actually planning on it next week.

Mine hangs down quite a bit, but I'm most concerned with smoothing in the front end to the hull to smooth the turbulance into the pump.

Removing material from either side would weaken it either way, right?
