    Scanning Service?

Anyone recommend a scanning service to scan a Manual that is in a five ring binder double sided aprox 250 pages.

    Is this PWC related?

Will the resulting scans need to be cleaned up or edited?

I use a Fujitsu ScanSnap scanner. Scans both sides in one pass, creates .PDF files automatically. Scan speed is fairly good, a few seconds per page, and it loads a short stack of pages at once, then feeds them through. You can append multiple loads into one output PDF.

It can also, which I really like, OCR the entire document, and create a PDF output that has both search-able text AND retains the graphic images, diagrams and photos) on the pages.

Can also create Word .doc files from the scans.

If this is something you would be doing more than once, it might pay to buy one for yourself. Folds down to a fairly compact size when not in use.

Do you have a multi-sheet auto feed scanner?
    Which model?

Can the scanner software produce a sequential set of page images, automatically?

Getting the scanned pages into a single PDF isn't too hard. Getting them OCR'ed, and combined into a PDF, with all pictures or diagrams still intact, is harder.

I don't know what is out there that is free, yet does a good job. Some of the pay-for OCR products do a pretty decent job these days.
