South Florida Water Craft Riders Details
It looks like we're about to pick a name -
Is "South Florida Water Craft Riders" OK and good to go?
I don't want to make a Federal case out of it, just vote on poll nearby
and lets get it done.
As we discussed I would like to ask all joining members to contribute
$20.00. This would pay for website hosting for a year ($150), some logo
design work ($50) and perhaps some decals and a banner/flag for events
that we have.
Make a check out to:
TEG International, Inc.

I will run a separate accounting of the monies in and out. If this becomes larger we can always do a DBA and have checking accounts, etc.
I think we need a minimum of 20 dues paying members to launch. If we don't get that I could just return the ones that paid. Hopefully all will see the value in a little organization.
I think the formality of setting up a club and affiliating with AWA (already approved and no cost to us) will go a long way in lending legitmacy and value to our fun PWC hobby in Florida.

tom what i do know from previous clubs is that whenever we decide on a name whichever one it will be, we should legalize it with the state as a non profit organization. i was in a club once and we put alot of money in art work, shirts, stickers and we never knew that someone else could register the name and come after us for using their name, long story short we had to surrender all goods with that name so im saying that when we decide legalize. my vote is for south florida watercraft riderz

Per Jetski Rider
That's a good question, I would say 1 rider/1 PWC = $20
I hear you about "legalizing it". It costs several hundred dollars to
incorporate a 501c non profit. Plus you have reporting requirements
to the state.
You are alluding to copywrite law for name / logos etc. There is a first
use doctrine that is in effect even if you don't formally register as a
trademark. You also have the burden of proof in determing if the public
may be confused by a PWC club versus some other use of similar name.
I really don't think we have much to worry about. Our biggest sunk investment will be any decals / flags we may make.
Let's see how "big" and long lasting this entity is and go from there. We
are going to "legalize" it in some sense by registering with AWA. They wouldn't allow clubs with duplicate anything.

I also have experience being an officer of a club who runs local Sports Car events (www.ERSCC.com). They also decided to go Non-Profit as soon as possible, but at the same time they hold 10-11 events a year that they need to charge $30-$35 to cover insurance, equipment, land rental, etc.....per event.
Other than intial costs though this club shouldn't have that many expenses(unless we start doing competative events), it may be a good idea to wait on the non-profit for a few months maybe event a year while the club grows and see what happens.

As Barbaro Said Our Check Is In The Mail
I Think The Name Is Kind Of A Little Long Considering We Need To Get A Domain And If We Want To Grow This Club As We Go Riding With New People And Trying To Give Them Our Web Site In The Water For Them To Remember Is Going To Be Hard But If Everyone Is Agree To That Name It's Very Well Ok With Me.
I Am Agree With Tom We Should Start With Something Small Not Involving Any Kind Of Corporations Or Nothing Like That, Remember A Corporation May Be Cheap And Easy To Get But There Is $ 150.00/year To Pay Plus Taxes To Be Done Etc.
I Went Rivas Yesterday To Buy Buy My New 250 And I Talk To The Manager A Little About Our Forming Club, He Said Have Someone Stop By As Soon As You Create Your Club And We'll Put You In The Computer And Give The Same Discounts As A Shop+ I Things That's A Start.
