    Raves on fresh rebuild 1mm over size

    Just had my 98 xpl 951 rebuilt, pistons out to 1mm over size, after running the motor in l find that my mates 2000 xpl stock 951 still beats me flat out . l did notice that the top of the raves are now screwed out flush with the top rather then all the way in, why would this be if they filed back my raves?

    If l take them out can someone tell me measurments (from stock to what l need to what they should be with oversize pistons please)on what they should be so l can check them and file them done if l need to.
    Any info will help please.

    Shaping the RAVES should have been done prior to engine starting, as this is when you check clearance to prevent another piston failure by the RAVE hitting it. Since you haven't tore it up yet...the clearance is fine.

    What you need to do is fine tune your setup. Check your impeller for dings and nicks, this kills top end. Check your wear ring. Get a digital tach and see what max rpms you are turning. Whoever built your engine probably left your carbs fat, making sure you didn't seize it before it was broken in.

    Leaning it out and getting it back up to old rpms will keep you next to your bddy...
