Wink HOW TO: R&D Grate Girdle Install *THIS GRATE ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE!*

Well after all the trouble of removing the stock grate in November and having nearly stripped out one of the brass inserts this is what I decided to do. I ordered the Grate Girdle and Riva Grate from Jerry but in order to make them work together the grate must be modified. I modified/installed the grate yesterday and it turned out perfect.

First I lined the girdle up on the grate and clamped it where it would be as if already mounted in the ski. I then center punched the holes and started drilling. First I drilled a pilot hole, the the largest hole (where the socket fits), and last I drilled the bolt hole to size. This was all done on a drill press. There are now 6 bolts total holding my grate on.. 5 in the rear and 1 in the front. THIS GRATE ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE!

Here are some pictures of what it looks like and how it turned out.

    Stage III Project

I took a couple more pictures yesterday also. I thought I'd share how my winter project is comming along. I started it the middle of November. Hull is repaired/cleaned, engine is back in and aligned, s3 sc/intercooler, and a lot of other stuff..

Check that exhaust out... pretty nasty looking!

I like how you put the ball valve on the water inlet line. Thats a great idea.

It just fits tightly in there you put one side in at time then the two sides screw together in the center making it one piece. The unit as one piece physically can't come out.

Thats not quite what happened to me but from what I understand is all you have to do is get all the bolts out that you can. The ones that are spinning should be the two rear ones which are threaded into brass inserts. The brass inserts are also spinning in the plastic pump shoe. What you have to do is pull the grate off with the inserts still attached so whether you can pull down or pry on it somehow that is how it needs to be done.
