    What model would you recommend?

What would you recommend to get?.... looking for a 98 to 2000 year 4 stroke. A good friend of mine has just been made eligible for the seniors division where we race and is looking to get a seadoo for this purpose....any suggestions? price range would be anywhere to US$4000?
    Thanks

Well, there were no 4 strokes until 2002. Of the 4 strokes on the market for racing, it's either the RXP or the Ultra 250. But you won't find any of these skis for $4000 usd.

yea. the GTX had I think a 155 HP 4 stroke engine and then went on to 185 HP superchraged engines from 2003 till 2005. In 2006 you could get the 185 or 215. If you need a fast ski get either an RXP (came out in 2004) or a Sea Doo RXT (came out in 2005). Each of those skis has 215 HP except in 2007 you could get an RXP with 155 HP. the Ultra 250X has 250 HP but that extra 45 HP has to pull a heavier ski. and if you get a 2007 Ultra 250X, check with the seller if they had any intercooler problems. Kawasaki had a problem with the intercooler hose blowing off. with Sea Doo, just make sure with the seller if it had supercharger clutch failure and if it has metal washers if it is the 215 HP SCIC model.

you can find a used RXP 04/05 for about 5k maybe a little more...

    http://www.greenhulk.net/forums/show...light=2004+rxp

that one is going for about 6k and may still be selling... just look around and you'll find some low hour 2004/05 rxps for about $5,500-$6,500

i know it is a little high on the budget but you pay for what you get

EDIT: that one specifically doesn't have low hours but you will find some.

Intercooler hose blowing off? The way the intake and outlet hoses are on the intercooler, it would be almost physically impossible for this to happen. (I know, Ive pulled the intercooler out doing some mods and those hoses are a bitch to get off) The only other hoses on the intercooler are the water hoses. There were a couple of posts about one coming loose but it's not a wide spread problem. Some of the early ones had a problem with exhaust hoses coming off because of loose clamps.
