what upgrades for a 2001 GPR800?
Newbie here..... what instant/easy upgrades would be best for my yamaha gp800r? I would want something that would be better than stock and not too much race(meaning not touching the engine bore etc).
Basically looking for better handling, acceleration, speed, overall performance. Looking at being better than other GP800R's on the water but still noticeably stock. Is there a way to order a performance impeller that directly swaps with the stock one? Any implications?
I've already changed my intake grate and nozzle and cone (R&D), what else should i look for that's not too heavy in the pocket?
Thanks for all your tips in advance.

These will get you moving..
Jims FF plate or Island Racing Mod4 plate
Remove the catalytic convertor, replace with a dplate.
HIGH OUTPUT PUMP CONVERSION KIT
If budget allows, 2" pump extension.

i would with out a doubt install wave eater eater power valve clips. no performance gains but stop engine damage.
-definetly a ride plate though.
-step the sponsons.
-maybe a different set of trim tabs
-riva power filters.
- high compression head.
- free flow exhaust.
- intake grate
- one guy said he was running a 3 degree key on his 800 with good results you would have to talk to some people who know better to see if its safe though
possibly leo's hole shot kit. dont know if it will help 800s

do the island racing carb mod, replace reeds with vf3s, replace the POS stock prop, get aftermarket heads or call lowell or Jim to cut your stock head, add a 3 degree keyway from Carl at island it will wake up that little mill.
step your sponsons. +2 on a Jim's or Island plate
I have a prop that will work for your ski if your interested it is a solas 11/14 repitched 12/17 and setback. The setback will help holeshot.

Personally, I seem to be doing this a lot... just call Carl up at Island Racing and have a conversation with him. Tell him exactly what you wrote above, and he will tell you what is possible, and what can be done. This is the easiest way of doing things, and finding what parts you want to get IMO and I believe other people would agree.
Carl is a great guy he will help you with any problems, and he is a dealer of a Ton of things. Trailer parts, Boat parts, ski parts, you name it he probably has it
but back to the main point.. call him.
Island Racings Number is:
Ps: remember he is in NY so keep in mind the time zones. He is there a lot though...
