    oil catch can update bad news!

    well after getting alot of oil in the catch can after 2 laps I thought i had better get to the bottom of the problem so pulled the motor today and stripped it down after a leakdown test and compression test showed bad ring leakage in the pto cyl.

    Well the rear cylinder has scoring and the thrust side of the piston is badly scored (looks like lack of lubrication) and strangely the top ring had 3-4mm broken off the end of the ring as the piece was still in the groove.
    The head gasket looks to have leaked on this cylinder and starting to leak on the next cylinder.

    I have an 07 short block I might use while we fix the 04 as far as i know the end housings can be swapped over and do i just have to take the oil restrictor from the 04 block and fit into the 07 block as i will run the 04 head? am i missing anything?

    Sorry to hear. Was hoping all you needed to do was elevate the catch can.

    run the restrictor w/ the 04 rocker shaft assembly, but no restrictor w/ 07 rockers.....the head does not matter

    the motor is an 04 with 50 hrs
    and thanks for the heads up on rocker shaft i have both but if i run the 04 shaft wont need to buy rocker shaft bolts as the heads complete with valve spring upgrade etc so i wanted to bolt it on the 07 block.

    What part of "while we fix the 04 motor" didn't you understand?
