Thread: Ship Ahoy!

We had a little bit of a blow last week (storm force 11), and this is what happened to a ferry bound for the Lancashire port of Heysham from Ireland! Called 'Riverdance', she's now laying on the beach at Blackpool, 8 miles south of her intended destination, and sinking into the sand more and more with each tide. The trucks on her deck are losing their grip, and there's chocolate biscuits coming out of one! The tide was 31 feet high today, but they weren't ready to get her upright, so it'll be another 2 weeks before it gets to that height again. If it doesn't float then, it'll be a salvage job on the beach to cut it up for scrap. Air temp today was a balmy 12C, with water at 8C! Ski ran great, after a good warm up.

Hey Volltrex. How's the island doing? I spent 12 years dragging coaches around Jersey through the late 70's & 80's! Great times at the New Med, Chateau plaisir, El Rancho, Scarlets, Sands, Les Arches and more. Used to scuba with the Jersey Sub Aqua Club, and had 50 lobster pots out at Bouley Bay every summer! Happy days.

Small world! It's getting a bit overcrowded here now, buildings going up everywhere & getting very expensive but the beaches are still great. Did a nice trip to Sark on the skis at the end of last year & planning a trip to France this season.
El Rancho & Scarlets have gone, Les Arches is now apartments, New Med (goldsmiths now) & Chateau (no longer a nightclub) are still there. I used to practically live at Sands in the 80's, party allnight then kip in the van & up for the surf in the morning, like you say Happy days. It's now holiday apartments with a beach cafe called Big Verne's. My daughters got a saturday job down there funnily enough.

Sounds similar to an incident here in Sydney last year with a rig being dragged on shaw by some high winds (unloaded its balst to early, the storm arived and the boat just dragged its ancor)
