    Stinger/turbo tube question

Getting around to pulling the cat on my '02 XLT. Was thinking of putting the riva stinger on it that came with a GPR I have. I know they are said to hurt top speed, but help getting up to speed. Figured that with flow control valve would be a good setup. But I have been reading up on the stingers - seems everyone says to keep with stock exhaust period.

Any opinions on if this is a good setup for an xlt - or am I better off getting a d-plate. I think either way the jetworks is a good mod while I'm in there right?

Oh yeah - other than wave eaters - anything else I should do to it while I have it apart? Its bone stock...

    Thanks!

on a 1200 the best all round exhaust set-up is the OEM pipe and OEM sound suppression using a D plate

on every XL you should replace the intake grate

I have always felt the jetworks valve was a mod that just wasn't worth the effort for most people, the jetworks valve works below 3,000 rpm, next time out riding pay attention to how much riding you do below 3,000

Bill, not quite sure. What are the differences? I am guessing it was put on my gpr when it was new in 2000... looks like a dealer did a bolt-on stage II kit on it. Dont know if that helps.

Phillip- wife will riding this quite abit I think.. she is no speed racer haha so it will be idling quite a bit I think. I have never rode one with the jetworks kit - so I have no idea what it feels like.

Oh yeah - a R&D grate I assume? And the seal kit for the pump shoe?

Sorry for all the questions.. I'm a snowmobile guy stuck in the south haha

Riva made 3 stingers, stinger I, II and III

Stingers II and III were labelled, look for the label on the silver coupler piece

I would describe the 3 stingers as

    Stinger III Slow

    Stinger II Slower

    Stinger I Slowest

The jetworks mod keeps water put of the waterbox below 3,000 rpm. This is a mod that makes sense water racers, it ensures the motor pulls hard from a standing start.

So put a d-plate on and forget about it? I am surprised the factory pipe is that good. Or Riva is that bad..

sound supression removal does give better low end launch along with the jetworks, but as said above, the jetworks is only good for race launches and grudge matches with ya buddies.

am going electronic solenoid on the same plumbing system with button on the bars so I can empty the waterbox when i feel like it.

the free flow exhaust mod only requires a 150mm x 90mm ss pipe and nothing else. so dont let the kit in the shiny bag trick you into thinking its rocket science and I didnt lose any speed on it.

stick to the oem pipe too. or go straight to tripples
