Why Mod For A Few Extra Ponies?

Could someone please help me understand what the mgfs. are doing to keep the speeds down to around 67 give or take? My stock 05 RXP goes 67 GPS, the new X goes about the same. With 40 extra hp, it has a better hole shot, but not top end. With all that HP could one just change the intake grate and propeller to gain a little more speed? THANKS

Yes, that's what people are doing. It won't be long before people are trying out the new Riva impeller. The riva grate offers a 2+ mph speed gain in itself. The ski is definitely held back. From what I read though, the pump tunnel will be the X ski's limiting performance factor, no matter how much horsepower is pumped through that baby.

Yes on the new X models an intake grate and prop will get it in the lower 70's. Riva has their stage 1 that includes basic mods and it claims 74.

to answer your question about the speeds being kept lower, it is said that a gentleman's agreement exists between the US Cost Guard and pwc manufacturers to keep the speed below 70, same rumor also says that if the speeds stay below 70 the pwc's wont be required to have the same equipment/rules as boats, if the speeds go above 70 all bets are off.
