Thread: ECU Questions
02-25-2008, 08:15 PM #1
Here's the scenario: I have a re-built motor with 0 hours. It came with no ECU. Now, RIVA says I NEED a stock ECU in order to program the RIVA ECU. My questions are as follows:
1) If a stock ECU is used to program a RIVA ECU, can that same ECU be used to program another RIVA ECU (for a different ski)?
2) What information does RIVA (or BUDS) need from the stock ECU (besides the TPS) to make the RIVA ECU work?
3) This kind of goes along with question #1: After the stock ECU is used to program the RIVA ECU, is it in any shape or form nullified or disfunctional?
4) How much (how many service hours) do you think a dealer will try to charge me to A) program a used stock ECU to my ski, then B) activate a RIVA ECU and transfer the information from the stock ECU to the RIVA then C) Encode a key to my new RIVA ECU?
Maybe you dealer folks or outright knowledgable folks can help me with my beginner questions. I'd appreciate it.

Then how are they going to use a stock ECU I have off a ski that's not mine to program my GPRXP that's not a Seadoo?
This really needs to be a simplified process. I just want to get my boat in the water.

if u make a trip back to the island anytime soon i can do all this for you... no charge... we'll make it work even if we gotta steal an ECU off something else temporarily just to make it work
offer is on the table

They want a hull ID# so they can void the warranty on that unit, as it now has a race ecu. As I understand it, dealer gives riva id#, riva gives this to brp who then issues to riva the activation code.....then riva relays this info to the dealer who can then procede w/ the transfer of info to ecu via BUDS. Does that sound about right? Get around this and I wanna know, cause I need riva ecu and not givin' up info They can blow through my j-pipe...
