    Exclamation Need help

    Hello,

I need a little advise. I have a 01 GP1200R that I bought last year (apx 60 hrs). It's been run in salt it's whole life. It has also sat for about a year before I got it. It was running great for about 6 hours 2 or 3 trips out to the lake. Then the fun began. I blew the motor running WOT. It was the last weekend of the summer so I let it sit until now to fix. I pulled the engine last weekend and this is what I found. #2 piston is toast as well as the cylinder. When we looked at the other cylinders there was some light scoring. The #2 cylinder was dry and the other two looked like they were getting good oil. The power valves are still in place. There was also a bit of rust on the top of the rod. What do you think could of caused this mess. I'm leaning towards a plugged oil line? Not sure how common this is or could it be something else. I've got a new engine almost ready to drop in. I just want to make sure I don't have a repeat performance. I'll try and post some pictures to help, just waiting on them to come in from my friend.please...

    Thanks everyone!!!

Post some pics if ya can, it helps.

Could be a number of things, oil line, carbs, filter, water injestion that finally took its toll.

I'm going to take the carbs to the shop today and see if they can look at them. Do you think they should have a full rebuild?

The oil line was still attached to the carbs. Also I noticed last night that in the carbs 1 & 3 had a line of oil in them and 2 didn't.

I should have the pictures very soon.

    Thanks

Do you know what signs to look for if it was water injestion?

    Thanks!!!

there are three oil lines that should attach to the carbs not just one..

take that oil pump off and go pre-mix.. you'll never have to worry about the oil lines again..

look at your gasket where #2 was, does it look like water was passing by the gasket to the inside maybe a thin line of filmy residue.

All 3 lines were attached. I didn't see any residue on the gasket. I'll double check when I get home.

Thanks for the help.....I'm leaning towards premix.

I'm going to go premix. I just had the carbs rebuilt and hope to start to put it back together this weekend. Just waiting on a couple of parts. I just posted the parts for sale if anyone needs some cores.

    Thanks for the help!
