    "property" tax on a boat?

This is for those of you who live in Ca.

I received a letter yesterday titled "2006 Boat notice of pending assessment"

Basically it says each of my doos is worth $6,950 and I will be receiving a tax bill.

Is this right? I have to pax taxes above and beyond salex tax?

We do in Virginia. I pay personal property tax on two Sea Doo's, the triton trailer, a canoe registered for use with an electric motor, two auto's, and a 5x8 utility trailer. We also have to buy county decal stickers once a year. They also just raised our real estate assesment by 65%.
What I am saying is they just told me to bend over and take it up the rear.

What sucks about this tax, is that if you left the money for your ski in a savings account, it would not be taxed. So you convert the cash into something else they nail you?

    That is fucked!!

I would guess just sales tax. I have only bought one diamond and that one cost so much I probably did not notice the sales tax.

Yup a PWC is considered a luxury and you pay a personal property tax on the priviledge. It is around 1 to 1.5 percent of the value they tell you. It comes every year.
