Thread: R&D sponsons

I posted this question a while back and it looked like nobody had yet used them. Has anyone tried the R&D sponsons? They claim a higher top speed because of their backing plate design. According to R&D, this design has less drag hence more top speed. Anyone tried them yet?

Yes have tried a couple diff brands and R&D are simply hands down the best! I picked up approx 1 and a half and alot better corniering capability. I actually have a brand new set in the nox of you need some. Gimme a shout or email if your interested.

Interesting read, I have found my Riva sponsons scub off speed no matter where the blade is set. I see the backing plate sits level with the bottom of the boat acting much like a trim tab holding the nose down. I can see how the R&D ones could work well with the backing plate set up they have.

Very good observance that is correct! Better handling and overall performance.

and do they cause any problems in the rough water, or with other parts installed (rideplate, wedge) together?

Approx 1 to 1.5 gain yes, And nO no problems in the rough water it actually helps it in the rough water it helps lift up the nose a tad and improves overall handling an all conditions.

The sponsons Brian has are working to help the RD plate. He has my one off Carbon Plate that was developed in conjuction to the sponsons.
So in its self the RD sponsons will not yield those speed gains.
As soon as the casted version of these plates are availible; Ill be all over it and give the scoop as to whats going on with the comb
