early riding Texas Gulf of Mexico

how early does anyone start riding....specifically south texas/ gulf and bays? What water temp can I expect in mid-March (spring break)?
I just bought a GTI SE 155, would like to break her in before the really warm weather starts, but I don't want to freeze to death! I think I've seen some Yamaha and Kawasaki skis out there in the bays around Rockport in previous years, but don't remember what they were wearing, ect.

I don't think the Gulf ever gets seriously cold even in the winter, but I would dress to the air temp, full wet if its below 60 shorty if its below 75. IF you are not real rambunctious with the GTI the only water you should see is normal bow & turning spray which a good set of water/wind proof pant and jacket should handle very well.

I lived in Corpus Christi for 24 years. I moved back to south florida in 2005 The water usuaslly is pretty cool haowever, very tolarable. It is still cool around spring break so bring some type of wet suit for back up. Try out packery channel. Howevr, Corpus Christi is north padre island not south padre island. PS Oh and I like south florida better less humidity

If the sun is out and above 70 shorts and take a jacket in case you get a chill. Or wear a shorty wetsuit.
We have a Freeport ride planned later this month. It should be alot of fun.
