    Pistons - MSX 140

Thinking of either OEM or SPI pistons. Anybody running SPI in the 1200's? Will not be going with Wiseco. Any other makers of pistons out there?

I don't think anybody else makes the coated piston like the factory units.

If you run the part number for the 1200 pistons #2202337, it pulls up all Polaris machines that use this piston. These pistons also go into all twin cylinder 800 snowmobiles. I know SPI makes a coated piston for an 800 Twin Polaris Snowmobile. What I am not sure of is whether I should install them. They are like $70/ea.

I knew they fit the 800 and I guess I should have known PSI would make a piston for the snowmobiles but I'll stay with the factory units as I've had extremely good luck with them even in performance engines.

My motor guy says he has a call in at WSM. Maybe they are the makers of the SPI pistons. We'll see.

Spoke to the Polaris Tech. Rep. The Pistons used in the 1200 MSX are the same piston that is used in the 2003-2005 XC800 snowmobile. So, I have purchased 3 SPI coated piston kits for $70/ea. Will advise how they work.

So fellow hulkers, not that I am putting this ski back together for the 1st time and I bought it in pieces, what am I up against and how to I verify all pieces are working properly, especially the fuel system? I am lucky in that the local Polaris dealer was big into Skis and has all the stuff to diagnosis the ski once put back together.

Do you have the part # for the snowmobile pistons?

    Kevin,
54-730PS is our part number for those pistons.I have had a few "issues" with these pistons. I would stick to OEM for most applications. You get what you pay for! retail is 89.99 cost to green hulkers 80.99

The biggest difference is the rings themselves. SPI rings ==JUNK

WSM pistons are OK but they dont have a ring for nikasil bore in the MSX engine
