What part of the coil cracks? The boot or the coil casing itself?

I have this problem too. it's the casing. The coil is fine. but the plastic casing is cracked. when I took it off, there was a metal tube over the stem of the coil tube. That was rusted bad. I took it off, because you can, it was easy because the metal tube has a slit. I have to post some pictures to better explain what I am talking about. My concern is if I take that rusted metal off, will I harm that coil? BRP put that for a reason I am trying to find out "WHY"? My guess it's a shield for the coil .... I wonder if the '08 has that....better check the part#'s

if the coil to the rubber boot seal is good run some grease under the rubber boot before pushing the coil in then water won`t get in and rust them causing them to split. pump bearing grease works the best

jaffabas, I have to show some pictures 2morrow. Here is what I think happens. The type of material they used (the plastic) gets brittle as time goes by.(that explain the cracking) Now, inside that plastic is the metal part. (that rust) and as you know...we don't like rusty parts in our ski That metal part is there for a reason. It's not stainless steel, otherwise it would not .......correction....stainless steel will still rust, but not like that guy. It's a lemming!....nevermind it's a long story Thanks for the input. I will post some pictures 2 morrow. Thanks Mate! post to ya 2 mmorow : )
