kind of depends on how much you want to spend. You can buy like Shoei helmets I was looking at those when I was about to buy a standup, and start racing..

I don't think it matters much, just preference... I would go to a motorcycle store or dirtbike or whatever and try some on.. then figure which one you like, and go to another store.. and so on. I would get an approved one though..

In my opinion for watercraft racing you want lightweight high airflow helmets. Fox V3 helmet ways 2.5 lbs and meets just the right requirements to feel absolutely comfortable.$375. They look really cool as well.

I just bought this one at my local motorcycle shop for less than they sell it on ebay, but its a nice, light, comfortable helmet.

Wore every imaginable dirt bike helmet for many years on watercraft.

Used my streetbike helmet one time... I'll never go back to a dirtbike helmet again.

I'm using a Shoei. I have a "shoei-head." Most folks either have a "Arai-head" or a "shoei-head." You have to go try both on, back/back to understand. Pressure points and such.... All heads are misshapen.

The streetbike helmet was an improvement for me:
    • Much quieter. I can actually HEAR THE ENGINE, since the wind noise is cut way, way down.
    • The front face shield is easier to keep clean than goggles.
    • Using the shoei vent system, it doesn't fog.
    • The face padding is a little excessive, but I don't think I'll remove it. I don't notice it after a few minutes...maybe because I've been riding a while.
    • The weight is about the same as my shoei dirt bike helmet.
    • Less chance of getting blasted with water, especially with the face shield closed.
    • Warmer in the winter. Unfortunately hotter in the summer.
    • Padding is removable and cleanable.
    • Shoei X-11 from 2005.
