    Step One.....Uh oh.....

So, I picked up a low hours used TDR for the STX-R. I went to see how to install it today, and looked at the service manual.

    Removing the waterbox:
Step 1: Remove the Engine. UH OH!

I packed up the tools at this point and went back inside for the day.

Is removing the engine really necessary? Or is there an easier way?

BTW....Has anyone ever taken the resonator out?

Ok.... No TDR. Sounds pretty good without it. What should I use to remove the resonator?

You can get one in a ultra by just removing the exhaust chamber and stinger. You may be able to do the same on the stxr. Sounds even better with it.

you dont have to remove the motor...it should come out at the rear hole...Im in the process of putting mine back together and I can tell you in a couple days if it needs to be removed but im pretty sure it doesnt. But the exhuast pipe does. But it is very easy undo the hose clamp to the water box.
Diconnect water lines. Take off air box and remove three bolts that hold it to the exhaust manifold and the to pipe mounting bolts and the whole thing will come right out. Undo water box strap and the other hose and it should slid forward a little and up and out.

As far as the resonator Do a before and after test on that ...if you can If not I will be doing it but im still far out from getting there.

Im going to just use PVC....you could use a piece of 6061 T-6 aluminum..but PVC is cheap and sucks up some sound. But all depends if you want a little more noise.

Im going to do a RPM & MPH test on the resontor. To see if there is any gain or loss. Im not thinking any really . Maybe bottom end gain if any at all.

We will see. Check my link on my project...the hull is painted and sitting on my stand right now. Im filling a couple holes and putting the exhaust back in...then the pump shoe pump and so on... End of the month I think I will be back on the water depending on how much I work.

    till then

What kind of gains do you expect from the TDR?

Any gains will be minimal, I am just looking for the thing to sound bad ass on the water.

Thanks for all the help. Let me know how you make out doing yours and I will give it another go.

Will the water box actually fit out the rear hole? Im almost positive it wont fit out the main opening with the engine in the ski. Tim, can you fit the TDR through the rear hole? If so you may have enough room to remove the stock one and pull it out through there. If not the motor will have to be removed or moved forward.
