Question 08 FX HO GPS help...

    Hello everyone,
    I'm new here.
I just bought 2 FX HO Cruisers at the miami boat show and planning on doing long range cruising to the bahamas...

For this purpose, got a garmin GPSMAP 478 with weather antenna...

Problem is, the 08 HO has no handlebars, and no perfectly flat surface to mount a GPS suction mount...

I tried RAM mounts, they have nothing I can see on their site for this.
    I'm so bummed out...

The 478 is a sizeable unit, so it's needs a sturdy mount.

Does anyone have a suggestion for mounting the GPS or has anyone dealt with this problem?

    I'd appreciate any input.

Some pics of my garmin 276 on the FXHO, s/s plate spaced off underneath handle bar cover, 2 M6 bolts into handle bar boss & 2 self tappers into casing, all using existing fixing points so no need to drill extra holes!

Very solid fixing & secure in rough conditions. The 478 looks the same as the 276, which RAM mounts make a specific cradle for.

Very nice, that's a sick mounting location. That's where I'm going to mount mine when I get around to putting a gps on my rig.

I think the bolts were 60mm..........just depends what size you make the spaces, which are hollow s/s pipe & need to be just a shade larger diameter then the M6 bolts.
Old post back from the dead this LOL......I now have a Montana mounted on my 2012 FXHO......the handlebar boss is different to the earlier FX's........you can now use four M6 bolts rather then two bolts & two self tappers, which makes it even more solid!

To me, it is the best mounting position.......plenty of rocks & tricky channels to navigate around here......can keep a decent speed up & not have to slow down to look at the chart
