SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities say two Mexican men stranded for three days on a boat off the San Diego coast have been arrested for investigation of smuggling.
They were among 15 people rescued today on the 24-foot vessel found 12 miles off San Diego and 20 miles north of the Mexican border. Customs and Border Protection says the group was found without food or water. No one was killed or seriously injured, but some people were dehydrated and sunburned. The vessel may have had engine trouble or run out of fuel.
An immigration spokeswoman says 14 passengers were Mexican and one was Salvadoran.
A spokesman for the Mexican Consulate in San Diego says the passengers entered the U.S. illegally.
A pleasure cruise spotted people waving from the boat earlier today and called authorities.
