Anyone know of or have had a pump bearing fail where it actually seized?
I am asking if anyone has had a pump fail to the point where it seized and the motor wouldnt turn with the starter? I know of one...please post if you know of it happening to a friends boat or yours!!

Didn't have one actually seize, but had one that the rpms would keep dropping and dropping if making back-to-back passes. Let it sit and rpms came back.

Yes, a couple of times with rental skis that sat in saltwater and the corrosion was so bad the engine would not turn. Yep.

Oh Ya!!!! Aubrey's ported ski was WFO in a superman racing when his pump seized. Locked everything down in an instant!!! We all thought the motor locked up until we pulled plugs and then the pump.

Bearing failure, rear. No water in the pump. Standard grease setup but I put it back together with oil and its been fine ever since.

Yes, water poured of the pump..the bearing grease was ok too, the bearings themselves were rusted/correded which I thought should'nt have happened with the OEM yamaha stuff. I've had wear rings stick the impellor also, where the engine would not turn over.
The front seal is usually the culprit on a rental with excessive hours...the water gets in and if it sits for any amount of time, like a winter, then the bearings could totally coagulate or the wear ring coags with the impellor.
Never had one do it under power. I have had a wear ring and impellor come together at speed and jack things things up pretty bad. Either through something getting wedged and making a blade bend outwards or an impellor coming loose.
What happened thats got you spooked?

I know of another boat that Shibby bought for his conversion was thought to have a locked up motor but turned out to be the pump. Not sure what the pump looked like inside but you can PM him.
