Why the high idle??
I've read as much as I can find, but couldn't find exactly what i'm looking for.
It seems like these engines are set to idle at 1800 rpm. Does anyone know WHY? If not, does anyone know a way to lower it to something more reasonable like 1000 or less?

I don't know either but have often wondered as well?

u can't lwoer it... its electronically governed in the ECU.. and it will do whatever it takes to idle at 1800-ish via controlling the idle bypass valve
the motor wont run / idle properly at anything less than that... it'll be a stumbling horrible sounding mess

Considering what they red line at, 1800 isnt bad idel speed. they all do it.
like your jeep idles at 750 or so and redlines at 5250...

how big are the stock injectors? Maybe they are too large for a nice smooth 800-1000 rpm idle?

Injectors are a good theory, I was thinking that maybe the stator needs the high rpm's to keep the battery charged in no wake zones. or maybe it's another attempt at idiot proofing things by aiding low speed steering?
I am really curious. After seeing hudrojunkies videos of his conversion idling at around 15mph i really want to be able to control mine at low speed. And no, reverse is not an option

I thought about this too. Do you think it is so that at idle the ski will still be moving fast enough to keep moving water across the ride plate to keep it cool?

have you ever riden an RXP before? at 1800 rpm it is very controlable, i think you are just used to the two strokes.....
