i slowly increased RPMS from the first hour to the 5th. by the 4th hour I was opening it up full speed.

I just avoided towing and WOT runs from a stop.

Can I run it in the "kid mode" without worry? Not just during breakin but anytime.Or do they need to be opened up on occasion.

you should not run the SLO key for break in as i think it only uses 2 or 3 of the 4 cylinders&pistons causing only those 2 or 3 to get broken in and seated properly. and yes short WOT bursts are necessary for a good break in.

    SLO key/mode

They run on all cylinders, it just limits the RPMs.

Thats why I think during break-in,at least the first few hours, this key is perfect.
