    Opinion: 1998 Polaris 1050 SLXH

    Would you guys consider a '98 Polaris 1050 SLXH for $1600 with trailer. I'm about to buy this ski, but the only problem is that the hour meter is not working..

    What do you guys think I should do? The ski is running like a champ..

    Do a compression test, check the condition of the pump.

    If compressions good, buy it.

    WELCOME to the Green Hulk Forums!!
    The MFD may just be a fuse, you can check for power to the red/purple wire at the MFD. If there's no power check the fuse in the electrical box.

    Welcome to the Hulk!

    From what I know, the SLXH (and SLX) is considered one of the nicer configurations Polaris made.
    SL = 2 seater
    X = performance model
    H = H label was dropped after '98, became SLX for '99 to '01

    You should confirm the model year, it is the last two digits of the HIN number on the rear deck. SLXH was only 1998, I think.

    Are you comfortable doing your own maintenance?

    These Polaris can be quite reliable, but there are some things to stay on top of. Dealer support can be thin/expensive, but if you are willing to work on it yourself, there is lots of help around here.

    Parts are generally not a problem, used and new, available from a number of sources.

    If you have clear photos, we can often spot things that may need attention.

    Is the trailer in good shape?

    If everything is in good shape that would be a pretty good deal.

    At least that my 2 pennies.

    The compression was measured at 120lbs on all three cylinders - is that correct?

    120lbs sounds about right, more important is the variation between cylinders. Should be 5% or less difference between the three.

    Salt water boat?

    Check the jet pump for corrosion, damage, and wear. Check the state of the sacrificial anode (left side of pump housing).

    Also check around the engine area for corrosion, signs of salt accumulation.

    Any modifications from OEM stock?
