    3 Degree keyway??

Can someone give me some advice on what and how the keyway works? I believe it is a timing advance right? Thinking about doing this to my ski next year...Need advice...

it is the keyway that locks the flywheel in place

    yes it advances the timing

it is a pain in the [email protected]@ to install, mostly it is a 1300 mod because until recently you couldn't replace the CDI on a 1300

for a 1200 I wouldn't suggest you add a keyway, it is better / simpler to install either an Advent or Riva/R&D CDI

My opinion on the keyway is great for the 03 and up 1300 curve but to much for the 00-02 ignition. The pre 03 has a pretty advanced curve and requires race gas to prevent detonation when combined with a keyway. Worst part of the curve is in the 5 to 6k range.

I ran a 3* keyway in my 1390 BB GK for a year,,, BUT I DO NOT HANG around in the 5-6000 rpm area(thus I do not cruise). I had NO problems. and It was a heck of a change. But I added VF-3s at the same time. I ended up with a massive rpm gain because It leaned out so bad.I almost BURNED it up!
so Yes I do think is is a cheap alt, to the advent. yes it is a fun to install.(auto adavance has a harmoninc puller kit you can get on the" loan a tool" program they have and it even has the bolts you need in it. This an a mirror is all you need. takes longer to get the exhaust off )

Between the key and the VF3s your into 500-550. and it is a big increase for you money.
BUT It will not be a cruiser after that!
