Looking to get some more MPH/acceleration from my '98 Pro
It already the mods listed in my sig. I'm thinking about upgrading the stator to a SS 6-vein since the aluminum 5-vein is cavitated some, installing an adjust-a-thrust, and maybe some 93 octane domes if I can find them. I'm not sure which impeller I have but concensus on here says it is a Skat Trak, but not sure of the size. I'll have to figure that out when I do the stator and pull the pump apart. Maybe also get a reprogrammed CDI?
Would this help me out in getting a few extra MPHs? Maybe some better acceleration (I say better relatively since the Pro has some amazing acceleration as it is)?
I'm also wondering how a wedge improves top end. Isn't it really the same as upping the trim, but only permanent? Seems rather redundant to me unless it works in some other way.

Maybe a different ride plate? - faster plane and better top speed. I have a Watcon plate for sale if interested.
What intake grate is on it? - open grates are better top speed in flat water.
You need to verify the impeller pitch. - may be bogging the engine down.
Jetworks valve? - better accel.
Like you said, Adjust A Thrust. - better hole shot and top speed.
Performance waterbox? - better accel with less water to expel.

I'd check with Randy at Watcon, he's a PRO785 go fast junkie.

there are tons of stuff to do but your not going to pick up much speed without a ton of work . the best mod is hotseat pipes but there very expensive .you cdi is as good as it gets . a 6 degree wedge and a Watcon rideplate should give you a mph or two and the rest is money in the motor .

agreed.. the 785 you wont get much more top end out of it...even with a ride plate and 6 degree wedge(i have em both) ........slap some reeds in it and a head on it..will help take off.. and i would only get a new prop from randy....Randy gave me a money back guarantee on the prop i bought from him ... and well i DID NOT send it back .was super happy with it !!
ps-- could also gain 2mph by goin with a long driveshaft but its hard on the bearings at 7600+rpm.. and it also hurts your bottom end some.

So I'm wondering just how does a wedge help when all I really have to do is trim up?

forgot 1 thing..with a 6 wedge u can do wicked tailstands LOL...with about 1/2 tank or less of gas
ps-- ONE DAY..i will get a video of it..

The trim directs the flow after the nozzle. A wedge changes the angle of the nozzle so you don't redirect the flow. Redirecting the flow slows it down. The fastest set up is wedge and neutral trim.

Yes 4 deg. you can add a 6 or 8 you can even stack them.
