    2004 GRP1300R Riva Racer - SERIOUS PROBLEM

    Hi,

I have a GP1300R Riva Race Edition that has no been broke for 6 months.

The problem: The ski run's fine for up to 15 mins, and then the rev's drop to just below 6k and lower with a large loss of power. No malfunction is shown on the dashboard error button, nor on Yam Diagnosis. From stationary the rev's slowly pick up once the ski plane's but will not go above 6k. The exaust also sounds slightly 'muffled' as if under strain.

My Yam Dealer has so far: Stripped and cleaned all exust and coolant systems / pipe, replaced the EFI Controller and has adjusted the mix at top end to make it run 'richer'.

I have spent just over £750 now, and the ski still has the same symptoms...... I am now almost out of money / patience... The ski cost me 6k new and has just over 40 hours on it....

It was one of the 50 made by Riva with all the Riva Mods listed on their site...

If anyone can help I would be VERY greatful.....

Please note this is my 3rd ski after having a GP800 and GP1200 and I am not a novice rider.

    Thanks... Rob

    Lightbulb ?

    Hey Rob...

    Welcome to Greenhulk...

This sounds like either knackered power-valve controller or the cat has collapsed into the stinger pipe or water-box..??
(Hmmmm..?? does that edition come with a d-plate..??)

My next guess would be either yet another bad controller or corroded pins in the plug the controller goes into..??
Sounds like the ski is not get the high fuel circuit..??

So:. check to see if the power-valves cycle open and shut.. Also check all three valves are being operated..

After that I'd be having a look at that big grey plug the efi controller joins into...
Check for corroded/broken pins in there..!!

    Gerry

What quad said..I am betting the powervalves might be the supect or the pins being corroded or. The dealer can;t find it, it must be something electrical or the pv's failing to open.

how is acceleration? how many RPM's do you get to before you start having problems?

Is the Ski PISSING when on the water? Maybe overheating? pump filter clogged?

Im convinced, It's either the exhaust temp sensor-or in your case the cat temp sensor chip from Riva or the efi unit-see other forum.

I agree with Quad, PV or cat failure.

What does Riva do to these boats to make them special?

I also thought the european models don't have the cat, of course the RIVA edition could be their D-plate in Europe also. Dunno.
