I havnt tried one personaly but from what I have found from talking to those that have. It will give you more top speed but will give up some bottom end and mid range. Basicly the 16/20 would give you quicker 0 -60 times than a 17/21. The 17/21 also apparently works better with a little more wear ring clearance than a 16/20, this would get the rpm up. To really run it you would probably need to be running tripples or mabe a level 2.

You could run it with heads, carbs, exhaust.

    btldigger,
Thanks for the info!!! I am going to try it on my 2000 ultra triple piper/48s, but I am afraid that the number 3 cyclinder is not going to like the extra load and detonate. Right now, with stock heads and the 16/20, I am running 50:50 race and pump gas with on problem. I am going to try to bump up the compression to the 42cc domes on my ADA head and run the 17/21 prop w/ 100% race gas until I can see if the motor is ok with the extra load!!! I might have to shim the pump with the 17/21 loose and watch the RPMs.
    Thanks,
    Anthony

What kind of rpm and speeds are you getting now? Which pipes are you running?

I'm running the factory triple with lammey 48s w/ vf2 reeds!!! I am getting around 7600 RPMs and the last time out, it GPSed at 77.8. That is why I am trying to gain more top speed, but I still want the reliability!!! After I get the speed I want out the motor, I am going to work on the hull to sqeeze the extra 1 or 2 mph out of this ski. Also, I just bought a 2000 gp1200r that has a set of factory triple pipe w/ an advent CDI and a 14 vein scat that I am trying to get in the 80s also.

Not bad on the speed. I was thinking the fp tripples optimal rpm was about 7800 rpm. That may be one area where you are missing some mph. The other places would be grate, ride plate and pump. If you are running a scoup type grate that will scrub speed. If you havent looked at it already check out the mods thread in my sig. You may find some useful info there to get you closer to 80. Impros might do you some good with the 16/20, they helped mine.
