    PUzzle problem for the weekend

Ok 2002 Gp 1200r, Riva stage 1 kit put on at about 75 hrs, ski now has 105 hrs. Starts easily, revs easy no stalling.

Put it in water, starts easy, ride for about 3 minutes or less then the ski can't take any revs, punch it and it wants to die, but will idle fine, doesn't want to go over about 5 mph.

Has oil, full fresh tank of gas, spark plugs good. What is the problem...carbs or powervalves or neither? The weird thing is it will ride fine off the trailer full throttle or punch it for about 1-3 minutes no problem then it acts up, has done this twice since taking to lake for try out.

Maybe a faulty temp sensor ? Does it give any warning codes ?

No codes thrown, or beeps, just punch it and it revs some and wants to die but idles fine on the trailer, & you can punch it on the trailer, without a problem, in the water that is a different story.

i had a similar problem with my 2002 gpr and it was the carbs, as soon as i would give it gas it would bog down.

it turned out the carbs had seized up and needed a rebuild.

not sure if is what your problem is but it sounds very close to what i went through and your hours are about the same as what mine was when it happened.

Boat has Riva heads with stock carbs and stock airbox... and tamper plugs still installed.

after about how many hours do the carbs go bad? or do they usually not go bad?

theres no time limit if u run stabilizer when u store it should be YEARS before u have to clean. BUT there isa spring in there that controls the pop-off preasure, meaning that our carbs are floatless. they tend to wear after a bit.
