do you have the cyl off?
do the rings look like they have any "blowby"?brown carbon below the rings
    there is your answer
also take the ring off the piston reinstall it in the cyl and measure the gap

I would just spend the money and put in a set of pro-x's in it for piece of mind. Sounds like you already have it torn down anyways.

I want to put one of those in my b1... hard to find the 66e. That sj will rip.

Would you be interested in a wake up kit for that machine. I have a set of Island modded carbs, already jetted with the pro-tec head doing 135psi compression. The carbs have the primer mod already done and are in MINT condition.
    PM if interested!

    250 hrs on 98 stocker.

10-50 hrs on BB and Modified, 66E modified need lots of baby sitting.

Keep it as close to stock as you can if you want it to run. On 66E its ride or wrench, which one do you want to be?
