Thumbs up New Piston Rings for the 4-Tec

Since I was into my engine and rebuilding it I check with Total Seal about rings.

I spoke with Ed their resident guru after sending him a piston. He said that they were the strangest pistons he had ever seen.

They could not do anything for the middle or oil ring but was able to do the top ring.

He said that our stock rings were just plain steel rings and nothing to write home about. He was able to do this set in their T-29 coated ring set.

They look really nice and figured you guys might be interested.

You've gotta be kidding me about the middle ring. Rotax has to get them from somewhere.

No he said that they were Mallee.
They do the Porsche stuff. The piston ring is so high in the piston they are very strange thickness of the middle and oil ring.

I will be happy with the top one.

FYI they were $63 shipped to me for all three top rings.

I see its a specialty item that Total seal doesn't get into.

(after all how many Porsche guys are going to rering their own engine)

And thats what makes them so good for our application.

In my opinion, there is nothing better than the stock Mahle pistons we have.... and the rings that go with them.

I'm a huge believer in "if it ain't broke don't fix it" but i do wish you luck with the total seal rings

I don't get this post. Y would anyone rebuild an engine and only replace the top ring?

he replaced ALL the rings... bottom two are new OEM rings, and top is new total seal ring... so no, he didn't throw 2 new rings in each cylinder with one new top ring
