SHO cruiser beaten by an 08 Ultra 250

Now this thread is in no way an attempt to doubt the shootout results.
Just 2 good friends racing a stock 08 SHO cruiser and a stock Ultra 250

SHO - 19 hours recently seviced at 10 hours with 10W-40 oil
    Ultra 250 - 6 hours

Conditions: air temp 86 degrees and water temp 82 degrees

We GPSed both with full tanks: SHO best 64.9 Ultra best 65.1

Down wind the Ultra pulled in front about 3/4 a length to about 30 then edged out the SHO to about 1.5 lenghts at top end.

Up Wind my buddy let me start first (1 second or so) and caught up about 30 and pulled away 1.5 lenghts on top. The SHO was toping out slower than the Ultra.

Very close but I have to admit defeat.

I still love my SHO and cannot wait for new mods to come from Riva.

The Ultra guys were saying that the shootout had a slow Ultra. People were cool about it, they were just saying that top speed on that ski was slower than what they'd been seeing...

That's fine by me, personally. I think the SHO will have more than enough benefits aside from racing, and hopefully the ECU from Riva, along with a few other tricks, will get it up there.

BTW, thanks for posting results. Was there any chop, out of curiousity?

I heard about the thread but never saw it.

We ran in calm and chop with simular results.

He was much wetter than me but too be honest I think he was having a smoother ride. With nearly 60 lbs more he should have an advantage.

I will get some pics for you guys tommorow, my back is feeling feeling a bit screwed up.
After we raced, another friend and I went around the island in about 6 ft swells for a good hour or so. if its any testament to the SHO sea-worthyness it took it well but my back didnt do so well.

Next weekend, but I already know the outcome At least in the calm anyway, the way my back feels tonight I am gonna take a break from rough water riding for little while.

Just a thought, if this was with 5 gallon of fuel in both skis, is it possible that if my ski was lighter (Less fuel) the results would have been diffrent?

I know we can all make assumptions but the extra weight creates more drag which may be more pronounced on the SHO as it relates to performance?

I did pull a 66 with a 1/4 tank last weekend, not sure what my buddy got with the same fuel level.
