From what I have heard is most chain failures on these skis are due to S/C washer failures(peices going into the chain and stretching it). I would start there in my search, you might not have noticed the loss of S/C power due to your useage at lower RPMS.

At least you should still have some factory warranty left. Get it in for service asap so you won't be sitting when the weather gets warm... Ron

I didn’t realize broken timing chains were common...

Do timing chains have a high failure rate in 4-tec's? I personally haven't noticed that many.

Really... is the improvement substantial? Can an earlier model year ski be upgraded to the new 08 timing chain?

    sorry to hear

Just curious, did this ski have a prior supercharger ceramic clutch washer failure?

we had one do the same thing and it turned out that during assembly someone left an extra valve retainer laying in the head and it jammed the camshaft breaking the chain!
I have repaired one with a broken chain and it did have ceramic washer failure before the chain went.
