Thread: 87-91 octane

    87-91 octane

Ok, So i know the 215hp-255hp models use the 91 octane gasoline, But yet on the inside under the hood it says you can use the 87 but reccomended is 91. By using the 87, does it just hinder performance, or is it really better for the engine to use the 91? I find it hard to believe that Sea-Doo would post that you can use the 87 if it was bad for the machine.

Use the lowest octane possible allowed in the manual. If it recommends 91, it may retard the timing when running 87 to avoid detonation. This means it won't hurt anything, you are just losing a little performance. Check the manual, it really should say.

I still will not put 87 in my tank. When I go to lakes that don't have 91 on the water, I bring a 5 gal tank of 100 and mix it with 8-10 gal of 87.

anyone else have opinions on this? I have a 2006 GTX Limited and I was about to lease a slip at the marina but they said they only have 89 octane and that they don't allow you to bring your own gas.

How bad will it hurt performance on these if I was to run 89 all the time?

I'm pretty sure all of the gas on the lake is 89, so I can't just go to another station. It's either lease the slip and run 89 all the time, or keep trailering it and put 91 or 93 on the way to the lake.

Im going to have to run 89 in my X; for the same reasons, thats all my marina has and you cant bring your own gas. and to tell you the truth its is extremely hard to find 93 on the water, except at huge marina's

You can't even get 93 at trump marina anymore. I think the closest 93 is in somers point.
