    Riva intake grate question?

Since my stock intake grate bent after my inserts pulling out I went by Riva yesterday and got there grate. My question is, is it worth trimming some of the front wings off to try to pick up some speed. I was thinking about trimming off maybe a half inch from each side of the wings. Not removing them completely. This is on a RXT. What do you guys think?

What is your speed with the new grate compared to the old one?

I haven't put the Riva grate on yet. If I am going to cut the wings on it I want to do it before I put it on.

I dunno about cutting the grate on the rxt.... its not really like the new x skis with the big ass wings.. The top feeder grate is more or less designed to get you speed but still keep you hooked? I dunno personally I wouldn't cut it but if you don't mind experimenting with its a dif story...

I didn't know the wings on the X we're that much bigger. I haven't heard much about this on the RXT so maybe it is better to leave it.I was hopping someone with a RXT has tried it.

    DON'T CUT the RIVA GRATE!!!

you (or me, or any body else with an RXT) are not pushing enough to warrant cutting it...

The X Grates are MUCH more aggressive than the RIVA grate...

Thanks JP. I will leave it. Let me ask you this . Today I test fit the Riva grate to see how much I am going to need to grind to true it. Does anyone else notice that the angle of the front mating surface of the grate, the very front with the 13 mm bolt, is not at the right angle. If you bolt in just the front of the grate the rear will hang down. This must be putting even more force on the pump support and the inserts. Is it just mine?

I trimmed 1/4 inch off the side of each wing and I like it. I've always lost speed with the riva grate but it tracks well. The 1/4 inch seemed to keep my speed the same as with the stock grate.
