How to put a diesel engine in a PWC

    Hey guys,

I need to know what would be the best way to build a diesel pwc from an old hull. Or just how would it work to replace an existing engine with a diesel engine. I would really like to build one just to say I can. It would probably not be legal on any lakes.

    Thanks in advance

I'm sure someone here will post some helpful info for you but, with the price of diesel I have to ask why would you want too?

BTW -this would be better in the Conversion section.

Also, it's worth noting that, much like motorcycles, a PWC engine's main virtue is it's power/weight and power/size ratio. The little 3 cylinder 4-tec SC is extremely small and light for the power output. Since when can you lift a 215 hp engine with your bare hands while not even straining? A diesel is the opposite of this.

Diesel's generate way too much heat. Engine would way twice as much. Diesels are all about tourque not rpm so a gear box would be required.

How about building a turbine instead?

That's actually crossed my mind. The only thing cooler than a turbocharged recip engine is a turbine.

    Pro's:
    - High power/weight
    - Most have gear reductions built into them
    - No cooling system required
    - Will run on almost any fuel, including warm horse piss

    Con's:
    - Produce a considerable amount of exhaust, requiring a large exhaust pipe which might be tough to package
    - Cost

    Diesel and pwc sounds crazy.

but crazy people are seldom boring
what you could do would try putting the diesel engine out of the Polaris Sportsmen four wheeler in along with there automatic belt driven transmission I have no idea if it would fit.

The down side is the Polaris diesel will not last very long held against the revlimiter I know of two in are area they have both bin blown up after exestended periods of wide open throttle the one twice and the dealer told him you cann't run them down the road wide open.

keep us posted if you decide to go forward with such a prodject, you would definately need a three seater to float it and it would be slow, but no one I mean no one would have one like it
