    MSX STEPS

I learned something from our buddy Jay today and thought I'd share.
The 03-04 MSX hulls had some changes...as we all know, BUT what I didn't know is the aluminum plate for the step had been removed from the transom in 04.
I know a handful of guys said they were cracking or getting cracks in the rear area by the hooks on the 04's and I'm pretty sure it was the guys/gals with boarding steps. I'm willing to bet some installers weren't using the inserts or the update kit and creating the cracks.
    Check this out.

    Hehe.
I don't have a boarding step but it's good information for those that would like to install a step for little kids, the elderly or of course for those that just want one. In the case of an accident it might make for a good emergency boarding step.

Even for those in good health, if you get tossed off such that you get the wind solidly knocked out of you, crack a rib, or just twist an arm, having the boarding step installed might make the difference between getting back on, and NOT getting back on.

I may have to remove my ladder, and find some AVK's the correct length. Anyone know the thickness of a 2004 MSX 150 transom?

What exactly is in these updated boarding step kits for the 2004 MSX hulls?

Do we need to fabricate our own reinforcement plates for the inside of the hull?
Is there even room to install such a plate?

AVK Industrial fastners...used them in my business, they are great.

It would take an act of Congress to get plates behind the transom.

Why there are no plates for 04 is a good question.
The update is all about installing inserts versus some using lag bolts for mounting the steps. It seems like a possible water leak problem, be sure to seal those inserts and mounting bolts to prevent water intrusion into the hull.
Through hull bolts would be awesome but I hear it's damn near impossible to gain access to mount washers and nuts.
