Thread: rxp-x seat

i weighed my seat after a ride in the surf. it was a huge 18kg. i got frustrated and have just pulled it apart. theres about 7 litres of water in the foam.
my question is what have people done to stop the water getting in the foam?
What types of plastic bags or heatshrink plastic ???
I have no idea?
once thats done i have to find some stainless steel staples and put the cover back on.

I thought someone posted something about this where they plugged the holes underneath the seat, probably with universal grommets. I can't remember if it was to keep the seat from soaking up water or keeping the engine compartment drier...maybe both. If the seat material is porous then I guess there's nothing you can do but replace it with a better material or put a clear vinyl cover over it like your Great Grandma's couch.

Spray the foam with a rubberised sealant. The water wont be able to get through the rubber and be done with it for ever. i did that on my rxp it never soakes up water at all

update on the seat. it took the foam 2 weeks to dry completly, and thats in the sun. i used industrial glad wrap the one thats used for packing items. wrapped the seat all up. went to the upholstery guy and he stapled the cover back on for me. the seat now weighs 11kg.

On the serious note, I have the same problem with my '04 RXP. after each ride I stand up my seat against a wall and all the water drains out. The guy who suggested rubberizing the foam is a good idea. I think I am going to do that.
