    Question New 2008 Ultra 250x?

I put money down ($100) on a new 2008 Ultra 250x at a boat show about 1.5 months ago before reading all these reviews and problems with the Gas in oil and recalls and oil vapors flooding the intercooler. I test rode the stx 15 when it first came out a few years back and fell in love witht he torque, acceleration, and speed, which is why I figured the 250x would be just as good or better. Now to make a long story short, with the price of gas ($3.35 for regular and $3.55 for premium here now, still winter blend so it'll probably go up higher) and all the problems I've read about I'm wondering if I'd be better off taking a $100 downpayment loss and keep what I have (93 750 supersport xi) or if the problems were mostly on the earlier 07 models and I'd be ok being a recreational rider who's out just for fun that I wouldn't have these problems on an 08. As far as the gas goes, I'm sure it won't be the mileage that I get now but I'll also be able to go atleast half again as fast as I do now and with 3 people and skiing options in with it. Any and all help would be appreciated.

If you are concerned with gas mileage (fuel efficiency) then you will not be happy with an Ultra 250. There are many better alternatives out there for MPG. The Ultra is heavy and fast. That does not equate to good mileage. Especially when you have to use premium fuel. Just being honest.

    Question

and another thing to consider, what's the difference between the 250x, ultra lx, and stx 15f? Has anyone tried all 3 to compare between them? They all have the same size engine 1498cc but the 250 puts out 250hp compared to 160 and is the ultra lx the same hull as the 250? 15 maybe a different hull? I guess with all the reading I've been doing I'm confused as to what to do now. It seems like the other 2 would have about the same top end speed but may take a bit more to get there??? Would the gas mileage be enough difference between the 3 to be that noticeable?

Do you ride on glass or chop?

I'm usually on choppy water or lake michigan for the big rollers and waves. So I guess that may narrow the choices down to the ultra 250x or ultra lx??? Is there really that much fuel usage difference between the 2? I really like how the 250x looks (Lime green) and the speed but I'm kinda wondering about all the troubles I've heard people talk about as well as gas mileage.

I own both a 07 250 and a 06 15f, They are both great skis, have the 250 for chop eating hard acceleration, and I have the 15f for long trips, fuel economy,( if there is such a thing on a jet ski, lol) plus when I fish by myself I take the 15f instead of my bass boat, with the pricing of the 15f I dont think you could go wrong with it,its avg stock speed is around 61 mph, and has very good acceleration for a N/A motor.and for @ $500 you can get it up to @ 64-65 mph with a little better acceleration.I would steer clear of the LX, Just my opinion.

There are issues with every craft it seems, not just the 250x. I wouldnt let that scare you away.

LX - slow with same hull as the 250x - stable and easy to ride. Entry level.
ULTRA250X - best chop craft made - 3 miles per gallon at wide open throttle. Great acceleration but be prepared to change the oil frequently due to blow by. The best offshore / rough craft made
15F - great, relaible craft forn the money - not good in rough, not as fast as the 250X and not as comfortable of a ride as the ULTRA or the LX due to hull size. Very, very good in turns - great closed course boat.
