    97 gsx fuel flow problem

    OK, now what?!!

One day i'm riding all happy all day long, The next weekend it runs for 5 minutes & then like schit & my fuel looks like it gummed up & clogged my filter. I pulled my carbs, opened 'em up & all was clean, like new.

On the trailer, If I run on reserve I can see the fuel flow through the glass filter but switched to "on" it stops flowing & the filter is empty within 10 seconds. I swapped the fuel selector & it's the same thing. Is it my baffle?

You swapped the fuel selector switch with the same outcome Jim?

If so, I'm more inclined to think you had two bad selectors. Another remote possibility, is that the pickup screen at the bottom of the tube fell out, and something got sucked up into the "on" tube.

Just cleaned my pickup tube on the 00XP today...so I'm very familiar with it right now...

Don't you have to pull the engine to pull the fuel tube on the GSX? Hey Jim, I am in California next week. I could bring you my spare fuel selector? What does your schedule look like on Thursday and Friday? My schedule is not set yet, but does revolve a bit around what day the Ducks play.

I should add that a few years ago I ran into some strange happenings due to the oring on the main fuel filter not fitting properly.

    Yup, same outcome.

They blow out effortlessly too so unless there is a flap of rubber flipping up & blocking I don't know what else i coud be. I pulled the baffle out & all is in place.

I'm gonna plug the ON tube on the bafle & run the RES to the carbs & see what happens.

I need a new baffle anyway, mine shows 3/4 when full & empty when at 1/2
    Thanx!

My schedule is light next week. Thurs. Fri. Might be a GO!

I Removed the UMI & pushed the fuel tank forward & yanked that Som'bitch out from the top!

Gimme a call when you're in town!

    Thanx!

Take a selector apart, there is a sleeve of rubber inside that directs fuel flow. It may only be slipping when wet. I've seen them do this before...if it's any consellation...
