Monday, 07 Apr 2008 05:18pm

Police will prepare a report for the NSW Coroner after a fisherman’s body was recovered from waters off Maroubra, in Sydney’s south-east, this afternoon.

The man was fishing near the Maroubra Pools, 500m north of Maroubra Beach, about 2.30pm today, when he was swept off rocks.

Passers-by contacted ‘Triple 0’ to raise the alarm after spotting the man face down in the water.

Police from Eastern Beaches Local Area Command and NSW Ambulance personnel attended the scene.

Local lifesavers on jet skis attempted to reach the man; however, they were unsuccessful due to the rough conditions.

The fisherman’s body was eventually winched from the water by rescue helicopter.

Police are now trying to identify the man.

Anyone with information about the man’s identity is urged to contact Maroubra Police Station on (02) 9349 9299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000. JTJGJTJGd3d3LmViaXoucG9saWNlLm5zdy5nb3YuYXUlMkZtZW RpYSUyRjE0NTEuaHRtbCZhbGw9MQ%3D%3D
