    Hey, digger. Paint question.

I was thinking about repainting the blue section on my '01 as it has several nicks and dings in it. Shop gave me an estimate of $300-400. I know you painted your ski. Could I just buy an HVLP gun and do it. My dad has sanders and a 125 psi compressor that I can use. I also have some Marine Tex epoxy to fill in gaps. Is there anything else I would need? Would this work pretty good?

Any responses are welcome and appreciated. Thanks.

That price is not too bad. You may want to check prices on the primer, paint and the gun. It adds up quick. Also check your compressor to see how many cfm it can supply. The hvlp take quite a bit. Are you going to stay blue or are you going to change colors?

    Not sure

I was thinking about black, but the guy at the shop told me it would scratch easily so I may leave it blue. If so, I might paint the hood black. The more I think about it, the more I think I'll just DIY. Then I'd have the equipment to paint other things if needed. I believe my dad has a 200 gallon, 125 psi compressor. I know it's a big one. I'm guessing the basic steps are sand, prime, paint. I'm sure patience will be needed for my first time. Did you sand by hand or use a sander?

    Oops

That should be 20 gallon. I believe it's 20-30 gallon. I'll check it tomorrow.

    compressor

Checked the compressor today. It is a 20 gallon, 135 psi. cfm 8.3 @ 90 psi, 5.8 @ 40 psi. I believe this will work fine with any gun I buy.

Yes it should be fine. What type of paint are you thinking of doing?

Not sure. I saw where you used brightside and mixed it with some thinner. I might look at that and also go to the local auto paint shop and see what they have as well. Any other suggestions?

If you find a color you like in brightside it works well. It can also be clear coated with urethane clear. Your local body shop supply should be able to give you some good advice also.
