It should have a rubber o-ring inside that seals it.Try to spin it ,to free up the o-ring.Gently rock it back and forth, pull it back.

Somebody might have used a little silicone to help seal it.

Found out the problem...one of the allen screws broke off when unscrewing it and the end of the screw is stuck in the cone. I'll have to figure something out.

Grab a hold of the cone with both hands. Put the stator between your feet while sitting down, and pull...... (wiggling the cone helps)

DON'T hit yourself in the face when it lets go.

You may have to tap it a little in different directions with a Soft Blow Hammer. Once you get it off,if you can get a bite on the screw, try putting some heat to the stator were the screw is at before trying to remove it.

Got the cone off this morning, now how do I get further in to get the impeller off? There seems to be some kind of "shaft-stub" inside where the cone was and it spins with the impeller. How do I get in there?

You need the impeller removal tool. I've got one Adam, just leave the pump, I'll get it.

How does the impeller feel when you spin it by hand? Smooth, gritty, or does it feel sloppy?

It feels pretty smooth but the current impeller is dirty as hell like I said (I'll post pictures when I get home from work) it is just covered in mud which I think might be causing a little bit of the gritty feel.
