GP1200 Riva QUICK REV CDI on 1100 Raider.

    Hi guys,

i did a search but could not find much information on this mod. should i just change the cdi, or do i need the gp1200 flywheel and electrics? can i get rid of the 1100 front cover (electrical box) by fitting a 1200 front cover?

got the cdi as New Old Stock on ebay!! fully boxed and instructions $185 shipped to uk!

Before I changed out my cylinders to 1200 cylinders. I tried some back to back testing changeing out a stock 1100 cdi with a stock 1200 cdi on my raider. In stock form. The 1100 cdi seemed crisper and more responsive than the 1200. However, when I changed the topend to 1200 cylinders and then bored them out, the 1200 cdi ran cooler on the topend. I think because it has a sharper curve after 5000rpm.

if you want to run the 1200 cdi, you need the 1200 flywheel. the length of the trigger band is much shorter. That is because the 1200 cdi uses 1 curve per cylinder, not 1 curve per engine. The actual swap is cake provided you have both wiring diagrams and are familiar with swapping pins around in an electrical connector.

Addicted is right about the flywheel, although you can cut back the timeing band on the 1100 flywheel to the same as the 1200 and it will work fine. The timeing band determins how long spark duration and discharge timeing signal to the coils. Since the discharge spot is exactly the same for both 1200 and 1100 all you are changeing is the duration of the spark when making this modification. U will simply cut down the leading section of the band till it is the same length as the 1200. Being precisce is not that important because it will still discharge at the same time. Also if you are worried about making the flywheel off balanced. You simply weigh the flywheel before and after you shave down the band. Then go to the opposite side of the flywheel as the timeing band and useing a drill bit, start drilling until u remove enough material until u have takein the same amount of weight as the difference between your first 2 cuts.
Now some may say that this is too much work but what u end up with is a flywheel that is much lighter than the 1200 flywheel. I have both flywheels at my shop and i will try and make a mesurement to let you know exactly how much to cut if you are interested.
I have been useing this setup in both my 1200 raider and both motors in my exciter for over 2 years with no problems. I have done back to back testing with a stock 1200 flywheel and my moded flywheel and found that i get about 100rpms better with the modded one due to its light weight.
