    fta satellite

    Anyone have any experience?

I'm looking into getting a system. I think I want a pvr HD receiver and have been reading but there is so much information out there it is overwhelming. How often do you guys have to load bin files, any tips or sites I should be looking at?

it is supposed to be easier than that.

There are actually hundreds of free channels available via fta, completely legal. Then there are other channels that aren't so legal to get

We have "FTA" set up at the house.

Its surprisingly simple. Aim a dish, flash the receiver and you are a go. We set it up on a Saturday. And you save a lot of money.

You don't have to mess with H cards anymore, everything is done through the firmware on the receiver.

BUT !!! - Be sure to get a receiver that is well supported! When the satellite god changes things, some manufactures are days quicker then others to get their boxes updated. Having no tv sucks.

I recommend Sonicview. Our coolsat box rarely gets updated

As for PVR functionality... get a tivo or media center. My experience has been that the third party sat boxes are barely a good digital vcr. You have to tell it to record channel 507 at 9pm on fri. A mediacenter (best invention of all time, except PWCs) or tivo gives you a guide and you pick shows by name is far superior.

We hacked up the box and put a HD module in it as well. There is a few channels that are pretty sweet. OTA (over the air) HD is pretty good too! Not sure if they are available natively in the boxes now or not.

Overall its been very worth while!

    What is TASsat?

What equipment are you using to pull in from 4 different satellites? 4 LMBs on one big rectangular dish?
