new guy with a new toy!

    Hi!

My name is James and I just acquired a '97 Seadoo XP.
it has a few things wrong with it that I am studying up on so I can fix it myself.
I am finding all kinds of good stuff here!

    Thanks!

So far I have found the VTS motor is bad, not sure about the module.
every parts lookup shows the motor and module separate, do they have to be bought separately?

the other thing is the gas gauge doesn't work. I am going to try the sending unit repair posted here but how do I pull the tank to get the sending unit out?
I am guessing slide the tank forward and pull the sender?

To be honest with you I don't know much about the 97s hullwise so I'm not sure if they are seperate or a unit, try your local BRP dealer(if you have one). The sending unit seems like the route to go with the gas gauge but you might check the electrical box(es) for blown fuses first.

All the fuses in the mem? are good, are there more fuses elsewhere in the machine?

I don't think so, the other electrical box should house the coil and other ignition parts.

The sending units always go bad & there is no fuse for it in the fuse box.

To get it out you have to take the shock bolt out & take gas cap off & hood open, seat will pivot forward & you will see a big rubber plug, remove & you will see the sending unit, replace all fuel lines while your in there.

Thanks! I got the sending unit working!
now my ? is, which port on the fuel selector valve is for reserve and which is for main?
I think mine is messed up, the only way for the engine to get gas is to run it in the shutoff position.

If I remember right the top goes to the "on" line and the bottom goes to "res".

    thanks everyone for the replies!
I replaced most of the fuel lines at the tank.
one of the vent lines is still the Tempo line since I ran out of clamps and time. will the tempo be fine for the vent?

And my knob on the selector was broken with the valve 1/2 between res and off!
hopefully it will run a little better now!
